Folk Ritual
Meishan practice, household altars, and the carved objects that serve them.
What this section covers
Meishan belief is a family of local traditions across Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou, Sichuan and Chongqing — transmitted by apprenticeship, without a central authority, and recognised on Hunan's provincial intangible heritage list since 2014.
This section records how it works: the altar, the pantheon, the categories of rite, and the lineage in this household. It also states the boundaries plainly, because a tradition described honestly is more durable than one sold as magic.
